[Narrator] How can I support someone else to share their story?

[Josie, lawyer] Your Story Disability Legal Support is a free and independent legal service.

We provide advice to people wishing to share their story with the Disability Royal Commission.

[Narrator] Can I support someone who wants to share their story?

[Josie, lawyer]You don't have to be someone with a disability to share a story.

You can be a friend, family member, supporter, or advocate.

We understand it may be difficult for people to share their story, there are many ways that you can support people to do so.

You can help them write out or record their story, or even be with them when they call the Disability Royal Commission.

[Narrator] Can I share a story with the Disability Royal Commission on behalf of someone else?

[Josie, lawyer] You can tell a story about your own experience, or you can share something that you've seen happen to someone else.

If you know someone with a disability who has been mistreated, we urge you to share that story.

You can both tell the same story from different perspectives.

If sharing someone else's story, it's important to ask permission to share that story, and if they don't want to share their details then we can give you advice on how to do it in a way that protects their privacy.
