[Narrator] How can Your Story Disability Legal Support work with me to share my story?

[Jack, lawyer] Your Story Disability Legal Support is a free and independent legal service. We provide advice to anyone who wants to share their story with the Disability Royal Commission

[Narrator] Who are we?

[Jack, lawyer] We support anyone who wants to share their story with the Disability Royal Commission. This can be a friend, a person with a disability, their friend, their family, or advocate. We're independent from the Royal Commission and we're free and confidential.

[Narrator] What do we do?

[Susannah, Director] Yeah, there's many things that we can help you with. You might want to have a talk with us if you want to keep your story private, or if you're worried about your safety if you share your story or your access to services or employment. If you want to name the name of a person or an organisation that might've hurt or mistreated you, if you've signed a document that says that you can't talk about what happened to you, or if you've got ongoing legal proceedings.

[Narrator] How can we help?

[Susannah, Director] It's a good idea to get legal advice before you share your story. So we can work with you to decide how you want to share your story. We can support you to make a submission to the Royal Commission, or we can support you in a private session with a Commissioner.

If you have other legal problems you need help with, we can help with these or connect you with counselling or advocacy support.

If we can't give you the help that you need, we can connect you with someone who can.

If you need an interpreter, we can arrange this for free. If you have a hearing or speech impairment, we can work with you through the National Relay Service. If you're an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person wanting to share your story, we can also connect you with our staff from an Aboriginal legal service.
