[Narrator] How can I share my story in a safe way?
[Jacinta, lawyer] Your Story Disability Legal Support is a free, independent legal service.
[Jacinta, lawyer] We provide legal advice to anyone who wants to share a story with the Disability Royal Commission.
[Narrator] If I tell my story, should I be worried about any consequences?
[Jacinta, lawyer] Your safety is really important.
[Jacinta, lawyer] If you have concerns, you should get in touch with the Your Story Disability Legal Support team before you share information with the Disability Royal Commission.
[Jacinta, lawyer] We're here to help.
[Jacinta, lawyer] You might be worried because you think that a person in a position of authority, such as a boss or staff at a care facility might not want you to share your story.
[Jacinta, lawyer] You might be worried that you or someone you know will be unsafe or treated badly if you share your story, or you might be worried that you've signed a legal document that says you can't talk
about your experience or something that you've seen at work.
[Jacinta, lawyer] We can talk to you about these concerns and provide advice about how you can share your story safely.
[Narrator] What are the special ways?
[Jacinta, lawyer] The first special way is to share your story in a private session.
[Jacinta, lawyer] This is the most private way to share a story with the Disability Royal Commission.
[Jacinta, lawyer] Only the people who work at the Disability Royal Commission and anyone you asked to come will know you have told your story.
[Jacinta, lawyer] The second way is to ask the Disability Royal Commission for a notice to produce.
[Jacinta, lawyer] A notice to produce means that the Disability Royal Commission will require you to provide certain information or documents.
[Jacinta, lawyer] It's an offence not to comply with a notice, so you should get legal advice about this option.
[Jacinta, lawyer] With the special ways, there are additional legal protections and we can talk to you about these.

[Jacinta, lawyer] If you're sharing a story that relates to another person and you have concerns about their safety, there are ways to share the story that will protect their identity.
